I seemed to stuggle more on the Ab Rocket trying to keep my balance versus doing traditional crunches with a pad and feet gripper. Attaching the springs are a mini workout in themselves too. As for me, the Ab Rocket is another great way to improve your lower, upper, middle abs and even your sides. Maybe the resistance of stretch coils is rather low, but it's rather good for beginners and Ab Rocket can make you feel comfortable if you doing a lot of crunches per day.

Definitely the best abdominal exercise equipment I have ever tried. Love the compact nature and ease of use. Good back support, and excellent for crunches. Customer service, however, could use a big improvement.

I'm not so sure about this product. The main action of the main seems to be pushing back into the machine .ie. concentric trunk extensor strength and on the way up the machine is doing a lot of the work ie active assisted trunk flexion.
The gentleman has described another exercise in which his feet are on the back support. Again, I would argue that he is pushing his legs into the machine ie concentric hip extensors and flexing his trunk forward is not in a position to work the abdominals maximally as he is supported with his two hands.
As with all exercise programmes, the aim should be to stay healthy. Secondly, have a balanced sensible diet. Thirdly increase your physical activity ie aerobic training and resistive training.
For abs specifically, I would recommend lying supine, contract into posterior pelvic tilt and raise into crunch, taking all necessary precautions for your back and neck. If possible, have your legs extended but do take care of your back (legs extended would negate the use of psoas and iliacus as hip flexors as their origins would be fixed by having your feet on the ground.)

I think most folks do not understand that the machine is a sit-up assistance device. That means that the springs are there for assistance and not for resistance. To use the device correctly, you have to use the biggest resistance spring for easier crunches. Then you decrease the resistance as your abs get stronger. Black penguin does not get it at all. It is not the act of pushing the backrest down that tones the abdominal muscles but the act of going up from the floor.

Well I actually just got the ab rocket for christmas, And I advise others to buy it. Honestly if you follow the workouts in the DVD provided you will feel the burning sensation of those muscles the whole way through, it is wonderful and I have only had for a week and I just feel better about myself and for doing it after every single workout.
The AB Rocket works very well. You can do sit ups very easily. You can work the middle and the sides of you abs. The AB Rocket is very easy to use. It protects your neck and back. It is spring loaded so when you are coming up you have an extra push. I found that it is the best and easiest way to work your abs. I have been using this product around three years now. I now have those nice muscle lines on the middle and sides of my abs. The only bad thing about this product is that it is not made well. The springs that are used for tension break after about 6 months of regular use. I have contacted the company before and they did send me a new one. The last time mine broke I just went to K-Mart and bought another one. They are a little expensive to keep buying like that but if you want something that really works and that's very easy, it's worth it. This last time I have gotten lucky and my AB Rocket has lasted me for about two years; but, I haven't used it on a regular basis. Overall I would give this product 4 out of 5 stars.
I just purchased a used Ab Rocket with 3 sets of springs, but no instruction manual. Springs are marked with red, blue and all black. Which ones are for a beginner?

seriously, i have only had the ab rocket for a year , i bought it march 09, and in aug 09 while my sister was using it. the spring part snapped! it could have been worse but for her it did nothing wrong. so i took it bak to walmart, which is where i got it, told them exactly was happened, so i exchanged it. so again ive had it and i use it regularly and so does my mom. but today when i was about to use it, i barily leand back , and the thing snaps ! but this time it snapped my side and really hurt me, i got big welts all along my side, it calmed down but now i feel a bruse.it sucked, i took pictures of it and the machine and where it broke, its stupid, cuz the first time i only had it for 5 months , and this happened, and this time i had it for almost 7 months, so how long does this thing last?? there are no papers inside giving u a warning for anything, theres no customer service anything eaither. its ridiculous. i like this thing , but i dont want to keep buying somthing that wont even last a year, and i do not want to take that chance of getting hurt again, i think the springs are cheeply made, the "instructions" dont say how far back u can go, there is no weight limit shown anywhere, im am 110lb and my sister is a little bit more, so the weight is not a problem, the commercial even shows muscle men doing this. all im saying is there is not enough info in the box when u buy it, no warning anything or even things to be aware of. i think it should be recalled, because i sure dont want to get hurt again and i have proof of the pain, the broken machine. there isnt even any contact number or address in the box, no customer service anything on it. its not legit! it works for me, but how cheeply its made, im sorry but u be saying sorry to me, and if anyone else has gotten hurt and was not able to say or contact anyone about it maybe because theres no where to go, no info!
I ordered the AB Rocket and it is a joke...I was charged shipping and handling when it is plainly advertised no shipping and handling, the seat was not included, the arm weights were not included...OVER ALL IT WAS NOT WORTH IT AND I DON'T RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE BECAUSE IT REALLY IS JUST A SCAM!!!

I am a registered nurse and have known for years that the secret to good back care is strong abdominal muscles and good body mechanics. I am very impressed by this machine because it supports the back and isolates the abdominal muscle groups. I bought it at Sears and they had it on sale (although it was not advertised) - I did notice there was no warranty, but the design and parts are well worth the money. It does have a warning to apply the safety strap over the springs before use - so people need to heed this advise! It is the first thing I have every tried that really works and is safe - the bonus is that it also helps my awful posture! I love it! Just on the side, I tried the contour ab belt for 5 months faithfully and after the trial period it did nothing. With the ab rocket you feel the results immediately and the workouts are varied and fun. They DO require effort but that = results. Thanks ab rocket for finally coming out with a simple, cheap way to get those stubborn abs back in shape!

I just purchased this product today only paid $1.99..I am now going to try it out and see what its like !!
Im from Trinidad and Tobago. i had the ab rocket for almost 3 years and it has worked for me. My dissapointment came when i used it one morning as the norm, the spring snapped causing a deep i inch long gash on my lower back. Its one of those things you'll never expect, nor i, for my understanding is that equipment is maintenance free (i guess) and the springs are sleeved in a neoprene tube ( i guess for added protection). To substantiate my claim i have taken photos of the spring but dont know who i should send it to. Can someone please advise me at kerynmartin25@hotmail.com. I will be purchasing a new Ab Rocker.

I've heard the Ab Lounge 2 is similar but better than the Ab Rocket. Anyone try them both?
